Old Fremantle Prison (torchlight tour) 29/11/06

Gallows. It was superstitious they had 12 people to watch the 13 body be killed, the pit was 13 foot down, the beam was 13 foot across and the stairs had 13 steps.
The Nous had leather calaco to stop the neck from getting rope burn, so if the body was seen by family it wouldn't upset them.

The stairs down to the pit were the doctors would have to go once the body of prisoner had stopped twitching to pronounce them dead. (the blue dot is just a light) Not sure why this picture came out blurry.

Our tour guide was telling us a story about the man jumping off the top balcony killing himself, then he asked the group to look up and this dumbie fell and the tour guide dropped the bucket he had in his hand. It made everyone jump, it was good.
